S A K R A L (sacred) is a surreal, nightmarish short film written and directed by Danif Pradana, as an artistic interpretation of the Javanese legendary Witch, “Calong Arang”. Instead of adapting the legend into a narrative film, Danif decided to interpret the legend as a cryptical sonic imprint film by disfiguring the narrative values of the story into 20 minutes of random and rupture scenes, presented in a hallucinatory cinematography that evoke the brutal nature of the film. The film features an intense exploration of dark and claustrophobic cinematic space in which was build through the use of strobe light editing and dronescape sound design.
Danif Pradana mentions Ingmar Berman’s Persona (1966) and Maya Deren’s Meshes of the Afternoon (1943) as the primaly cinematic influences of S A K R A L. Other Filmmakers and Artists that also become his major influences are Stan Brakhage, Jean-Luc Godard, Stanley Kubrick, Gaspar Noe, David Lynch, Lars Von Trier, Peter Tscherkassky, Bill Viola, and etc.
